Life Update: Work and School
September 27, 2005 @ 01:17 AMFirst thing’s first… My sister’s wedding was wonderful! It all seemed to come together well (she may have a differing opinion), and it was completely and totally her. Her husband - my new brother in law - is wonderful for her and encouraged my sister to make the wedding whatever she wanted. And that she did! I have some good video and will probably post clips at some point.
Work is good! I think everyone has that ‘oh-my-god-what-did-I-do’ period of time when they start a new job. I’m starting to come out of that. I can tell this job is going to be both challenging and extremely rewarding. I’m not a fan of massive corporations (at least not as an employer), and this corporation is MUCH larger than I originally believed. I probably can’t say much more about what I do, as their policies on such things are much more restrictive than my last employer’s. But, all in all, I think I’m going to like it here.
I had forgotten what college was like. I had my first class last night, and I’m not more terrified and more mentally alive than I have been in a while. From 6pm-8:30pm Monday and Wednesday I’ll be sitting in a dingy little classroom in North Seattle learning Pre-Calculus. This is a step back from where I was at 5-6 years ago, but math credits apparently don’t satisfy requirements after a certain amount of time, and I hardly remember anything anyway, so it’s good. I’ll be spending most of tonight doing homework, I’m sure… re-reading the 6 pages of notes I took. I’ve missed school, I’m glad to be back.
My grandfather passed away last weekend. It’s been very sad for me these last couple of days. I love my grandpa very much. I hadn’t seen him in a little while and that saddens me. We’ll be spending some time in Mt. Vernon on Sunday celebrating his life with the family.
One last thing… I’m officially engaged! No doubt Jessica will be posting the complete saga on her blog, so I’ll be light on details. It happened Thursday evening, but we’d been keeping it under wraps until my sister got back from her honeymoon. We finally told my family on Saturday, and I just haven’t gotten around to posting since then. But now you know! We spent 3 days in Portland last weekend (SO. MUCH. FUN.) and I was planning on doing it then, but as always happens, plans got entirely messed up and I had to do it later last week. When Jess posts about it you can read all the details. :)
So that’s it. Back to work for me. :)
