FadeToGrey - NetBeans/TextMate themes

Heavily modified, but based on the RubyRobot theme for TextMate (worth checking out).

HTML/XML colors are intentionally higher contrast than normal since, in my experience, I'm often looking for specific attributes/values or Ruby code.

Slight differences between NetBeans and TextMate versions, obviously, due to different syntax colorization rules. NetBeans pictured below:

I really like the netbeans theme - however, I have no clue how to install it. When doubleclicking the jar file I get an error pointing me to a console, and when running it from the terminal, I get:

./com-superruby-netbeans-themes-fadetogrey.nbm.jar ./com-superruby-netbeans-themes-fadetogrey.nbm.jar: line 1: PK: command not found ./com-superruby-netbeans-themes-fadetogrey.nbm.jar: line 2: Ú^X7: command not found ./com-superruby-netbeans-themes-fadetogrey.nbm.jar: line 3:Ù^X7‘: command not found ./com-superruby-netbeans-themes-fadetogrey.nbm.jar: line 4: syntax error near unexpected token )’ ./com-superruby-netbeans-themes-fadetogrey.nbm.jar: line 4:ê

okay, I think I figured it out. Remove the “.jar” from the downloaded file, then go to “Tools - Plugins” in Netbeans, select the “Downloaded” tab, add the downloaded file to the list, then hit install. Somehow I would have assumed I could either doubleclick a theme file, or add themes from the config window where I choose the theme to use itself.

Guess there’s a reason why Netbeans 6 is still beta, as it’s UI isn’t really easy to use (especially compared with most of the OSX applications).

Yeah, it’s tough to beat TextMate’s theme files… I hope NetBeans figures out an easier way of packaging up themes, it’s definitely NOT easy at the moment.

  5. aleco Says:

just out of curiosity, why did you add the .jar extension if it’s not needed (or rather: makes things even more complicated)?

  6. brasten Says:

Y’know, I noticed the same .jar thing, but the file itself actually does not have a .jar extension on it (check the link).

You’re on a Mac, right? I’m wondering if it has something to do with the way .nbm files are handled. Whenever I download .nbm files, they end up with a .jar extension and it gets in the way.

For me it’s the best dark netbeans them for use in NetBeans! I can’t download the NetBeans package! Please fix it, or send it to me via mail.

    Thanks a lot!
